Description:

This calculator determines the volume of fluid, medicine or solution to be given to a patient for a manually regulated IV.

Notes:
  1. IV stands for intravenous.
  2. IV tubing comes in 10, 15 and 20 gtt/mL for macrodrop and 60 gtt/mL for microdrop factors.

Calculation Instructions:

  1. Enter the drip rate and select the units.
  2. Enter the time and select the units.
  3. Enter the IV tubing calibration and select the units.

Inputs:

Parameter Unit Units Used Description
Time time hour minute This is the infusion time. The duration or time the IV is to be administered.
Drip Rate or Watch Count drops per minute gtt/minute The number of drops per minute to be administered.
Calibration drop factor gtt/milliliter The number of drops needed to deliver 1 milliliter of fluid.
