Description:

This calculator determines the drip rate for a manually regulated IV. Flow rate is the rate a liquid volume is delivered over a period of time. Manually regulated IVs are also known gravity tubing IVs.

Notes:
  1. IV stands for intravenous.
  2. IV tubing comes in 10, 15 and 20 gtt/mL for macrodrop and 60 gtt/mL for microdrop factors.

Calculation Instructions:

  1. Enter the volume ordered and select the units.
  2. Enter the time ordered and select the units.
  3. Enter the IV tubing calibration and select the units.

Inputs:

Volume volume milliliter liter The amount of solution or fluid to be given over a time period.
Time time hour minute The duration or time the IV is to be administered.
Calibration drop factor gtt/milliliter The number of drops needed to deliver 1 milliliter of fluid.
