Watch Count and Drip Rate - IV Tubing Calculator
Manually Controlled and Regulated IVs

This calculator determines the drip rate, watch count or flow rate setting for a manually controlled IV.

The input parameters or variables are:

Volume - The amount of solution or fluid to be given over a time period.

Time - The duration or time the IV is to be administered.

Calibration - The drop factor or the number of drops needed to deliver 1 milliliter of fluid.

The answer, Drip Rate or Watch Count, is given in gtt per minute(gtt/min) which is the number of drops per minute.

In addition, the calculator provides a step by step example of the derived solution.

Note: IV stands for intravenous. IV tubing comes in 10, 15 and 20 gtt/mL for macrodrop and 60 gtt/mL for microdrop factors.
